Maansteen, door Drees ontvangen van de Amerikaanse ambassadeur

In 1967 W. Drees presented several items to the Rijksmuseum on loan. In 1991 the Drees family changed this loan into a gift. In 2003 a number of objects were added from the estate of W. Drees.

Explanatory note

  • Op 9 oktober 1969 bezochten de astronauten die dat jaar naar de maan waren gereisd Nederland. Voormalig premier Willem Drees kreeg bij die gelegenheid van de Amerikaanse ambassadeur een stuk 'maansteen' cadeau. De steen zou afkomstig zijn uit maanvondst 10085 (Apollo 11). In 2009 is door onderzoek vastgesteld dat de steen niet van de maan afkomstig is, maar dat de 'maansteen' in werkelijkheid versteend hout is, afkomstig van de aarde [Gelder 2009].
