The running putto on this dish has been vividly rendered with loose brushstrokes and stark shadows. The alternating broad and narrow trapezium-shaped panels with plant motifs on the rim are derived from Chinese porcelain. The copying of Asian decorations would later also play a major role in the development of Delftware.
